About the instrument:

The warmth and projection of this instrument are surprising for its size. Surprising is also how light it is, due to the fact that it is fitted with wooden friction tuners, making it one of our most eco-friendly models. It´s unique asymmetrical top and fan design is made to enhance the beauty of its sound and the tone woods it is made of. The pine tops of this model come from one of our first mythical trees: El Abuelo, a massive pine ocote that grew next to Miguel Romero´s grandmother´s house. Unfortunately El Abuelo suffered a bark beetle infestation, and had to be cut in 2016 before it endangered the homes and people around it. The luthier himself processed the wood of El Abuelo, and wants to make sure it is all appropriately honored by making high quality instruments out of it. The bean ukulele is one of Qzuko´s earliest flagship models, and one we are sure you will love playing! It is available both in fretted and fretless versions, as a tenor or a soprano ukulele

About the Luthier:

Miguel Romero is a visual artist and luthier. He has both a BFA and an MFA in sculpture. He lived for 20 years in the USA and Germany, and is Visual Arts Professor at The National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH), where he founded the LUTHIERLAB, which is dedicated to researching the combination of science and art to create experimental and traditional musical instruments out of sustainably-obtained native woods. He makes ukuleles, didley bows, dulcimers, and has recently begun his first two baroque guitars
